Depending on the student's age and abilities, reading programs address needs in the following areas: phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, word knowledge, word analysis, critical thinking skills.
Sylvan Math Essentials is a program based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards and uses nationally recognized materials. Critical thinking skills such as problem solving, estimation, and logic take students beyond the basics of mathematical computation. Students master a new skill before advancing to the next level, ensuring the retention of information long after it is learned!
Sylvan Beginning Reading is designed to help children entring Kindergarten, grades 1 or 2, and older students who need to reinforce basic reading skills and build confidence. Students develop their skills within the following areas: phonics, language, letter recognition, sound knowledge, listening and reading comprehension, and fluency.
Sylvan's Study Skills program helps middle and high school students improve classroom and test performance, learn more in less time, and enjoy time studying. Skill sets include: Organization, time management and goal setting; Note-taking and active listening; Studying and research techniques; Test-taking stategies and anxiety management.
Sylvan's Alegbra program is designed for students who need to reinforce basic algebra skills and build confidence as well as students who have never taken an Algebra class. Areas of skill development include: Connections to Algebra, Equations and inequalities, Polynomials, Factoring, Fractions and rational expressions, Linear equations and graphing, Radicals, and Quadratic Fuctions and equations. Students can receive high school credit for their Algebra program, as Sylvan is accredited by NAAS and CITA.
Sylvan's Academic Writing program focuses on specific areas that are essential to writing, such as sentence structure, paragraph development, and writing mechanics. Students learn how to tackle even the toughest assignments with confidence and master the ability to write a variety of paragraphs and essays.
Sylvan's unique approach is designed to help 7th through 12th graders master skills that dramatically increase reading speed, improve comprehension, and enhance retention. Effective reading rates are increased by 50% with just 12 hours of instruction.
Summer is a great time for these classes! Advanced Reading Skills will be offered August 4th - August 15th.
Sylvan's Geometry program is designed for students who need to review and reinforce existing geometry skills as well as students who have never taken a Geometry course. Areas of skill development include: Angles and lines, Triangles and quadrilaterals, Circles and three-dimensional figures, Similar triangles and transformations, Advanced triangle applications, Inductive and deductive reasoning, and Writing proofs. Students can receive high school credit for their Geometry program, as Sylvan is accredited by NAAS and CITA.
Sylvan's college test preparation course has proven to significantly increase test scores (160 points on average for the SAT) to help students get into the colleges and universities of their choices. Students of all test-taking abilities benefit from Sylvan's highly personalized and targeted approach that focuses on the exact skills needed to successfully answer test questions.
